Moises Salazar Tlatenchi (B. 1996, Chicago, IL) is a non-binary artist based in Chicago, Illinois. Salazar’s practices is dedicate to advocating for the communities they are a part of, their paintings are a visual exploration of interests including Colonial, Mexican, and Catholic histories, primarily alongside LGTBQIA+ narratives. Their existence as a non-binary, first generation Mexican American creates a state of conflict within their identity, and this tension is the most prevalent influence in their practice. As a queer person who is also a New American, their lived experience have been one of constantly combating instability, discrimination, and erasure.

A Finalist of The QUEERART PRIZE, Salazar’s work has been featured in publications such as The Hispanic Executive, artnet, HYPERALLERGIC, and THE LATINX PROJECT.
They have participated in the The Hyde Park Art Center Residency and is a recipient of LuminArts Foundation Arts Fellowship, 3Arts Make a Wave Grant and is a Fire Island Artist Residency recipient. Most recently Salazar has been named one of the 2023 Breakout Artists : Chicago’s Next Generation of Image Makers and is currently a 2023 - 2024 Leslie Lohman Fellow.
